No to mill road tescos.

The campaign was against tesco's being being built on mill road.
www.nomillroadtesco.org

Petition was signed by 4,136 people BUT can still be signed.
Says how many tesco's have been built in the cambridge area (14 stores in total)
Campaign is to try protect the local businesses' and to stop then going out of business.
The main reason people go down there is too shop/get to the train station and they also pass it on the bus(citi 4)

They have posters/flyers that people can print off and obviously put around places.
It also points out that tesco's does NOT have a alcohol license which many of the surrounding stores do own! so that is something tescos does not.

'Protesters' marched down mill road in protest.
The website shows true and untrue things tescos have said/done.
example: Squatters move onto site - tescos say they will not evict them till work is started, the squatters did get evicted before hand.

June 08:
Tescos apply for a air conditioning and refrigeration plant
5000 NOW signed petition.

reflection on today.

What have i done today?

Today i have finished off a old blog post for the stencil and also created a second stencil to print off.

What went well and why?
I finished off a blog post that i had started and posted it too blogger.
It has got that work out of the way so i don't have to worry about finishing it off.

What i could of done differently?
i could of done that quicker so i could of printed of my stencil.
so i am going to have to do that tomorrow as soon as i can.

what i have to do tomorrow?
i have to print off both my stencil designs and do the screen printing planning
so i am going to do the stencil straight as soon as i get in.

T-shirt stencil.

my t shirt design is inspired by a glamour kills top thats say express yourself,
i felt that idea would work for my campaign. i didn't copy the GK shirt i just used a similar idea.
I chose the blues as there quite friendly colour's and they look nice together
i have used three shades of blue, a light blue an electric blue and a purple.
I've done two black stencils - one where the heart is read.

T-shirt.

SHAKES TEE By CHEER UP CLOTHING.

The shakes tee by cheer up is a ash grey t-shirt with a pink white and red print on top of it.
The image is of A milkshake glass with whipped cream and a cheery on top, with the drnk spilling out of the top of it.
Its a high rise collar with shirt sleeves.
The reason i got it is because the brand is by two friends of mine, Ed and Matt.
They are both in bands ( You me at six and look! Im a ghost/Me and the moon)
and they are quite big within the music industry, and alot of bands wear this brand
for example:
- All forgotten
- Emarosa
- Futures
- Hit the lights
- Houston calls
- Me and the moon
- Versa Emerge
- We are the ocean
- You me at six

They other designs are often seen in bands music videos or on the internet as the bands wear the clothing and the clothes are seen all over the net as they are promoted. the clothing company obviously has a strong link to the music industry.
I like my tee as its quite simple but cute and quirky at the same time, i ordered it over the internet from the official cheerupclothing.com but i could easily have picked it up from many you me at six tours as Matt takes Ed and the clothing on tour with his band around the UK. They make around £10,000 yearly from the company.
The clothing line has featured in many magazines such as 'front' which is a 'gentleman's mag' and kerrang clothing. It has also appeard on youtube with an advert for there march line. (inserted below)

The t-shirt costed me £18 with p+p and was sent the next day. They do not post worldwide and only post around the UK unless the products are with matt in tour, but so far they haven't made it out of the UK yet.

Primark On The racks

I watched two videos about the making of

high street clothing, One looked into Primark

and the other was about ‘who’ makes the t

shirts.

The first one i watched was Blood sweat and t shirts, this

was a show on six fashion loving teens being sent over to

india to see how clothes are really made.

I think the most effective part of these videos are that it

shows the reality of backstreet factories in india, and

highlights the horrific problems within them.

It also shows the reaction of a british citizen which we can

relate too as thats what we are, it kind of hits home when

you see them in that situation.

The second video i watched was ‘Primark on the rack’

which is about the high street store Primark. This video

highlights the sort of problems that can arise inside the

store.  Like products being all over the place, riots going

into  a brand new store and fights breaking out over ‘cheap’

clothing.  It also highlights how cheap the clothing is and

says ‘primark in the new Prada.’

Campaign ideas.

Idea One:
Later Starts At College for all students.
Early starts everyday at college means i have to get up at half five/ six o clock everyday and i don't go to sleep until around half twelve / one in the morning which means i'm tired every day.
But as I'm busy doing work at night i don't sleep till around one and plus i don't fall asleep easily. I also know a lot of people who are the same and getting up in time to get the bus from where we live  means were getting up just a few hours after going to sleep.
A lack of sleep also means i keep getting run down and ill which means i'm missing time off college and falling behind on work. So i think later starts at least twice a week would help keep me and other students awake enough and well enough to do the college work.

Idea Two:
More support for those suffering from depression.
There are already groups out there that offer support and advice for teenagers suffering from this disorder a well known one being 'To write Love On Her Arms' this group offers support for teenage girls who self harm.
this is not an issue that has effected me personally but i do know people who suffer/suffered from the disorder.
i don't think there is enough support out there for people with this disorder so i think if there was more then it may help cut back on the amount of people who do suffer from it.
I know it is sometimes genetic, as i know this first hand from family members but it is also something that can occur to one single person. I think if more people knew about the disorder and if more people were there to offer a shoulder to cry on it could have a positive effect of the person. I know people who have been helped from ' To write love on her arms'

Idea Three:
Free hugs for people all over the UK. I think if people did this it would make people laugh and also be quite fun. Everyone loves a hug right and you quite often see people with free hug signs and you see people hugging them and laughing. I've done it before at reading music festival and had lots of fun.  i also saw lots of people doing it also, but even in the streets with adults around you see it happening.

The way my design changed from when i drew it up in my sketch book to making it on photoshop is that i had to change the swallows around. they are also closer together than they were on the paper, i also adjusted the colour levels so that one was slightly darker than the other one.  I couldn't draw the image up on photoshop as the tools wouldn't let me achieve what i wanted so i went on google and just searched swallows on google images.
I think i prefer the image on the paper that that on photoshop even though its the image i drew from but i don't like how sketchy it is on the photoshop image.
I adjusted the image slightly by moving the swallows closer together and changing the darkness of the images. I also got rid of some of the lines that are around the swallows.

Banksy.

So no one knows who banksy really is, people believe he is from brighton and travels the world spraying his designs on buildings.
He has once said "to become invisible all I do is wear a bright yellow jump suit and listen to Heart FM really loudly and no one bothers you".
His art is often recognized for his distinct designs. It is often very simple but with a big impact

as shown in the picture on the left.
it is such a simple design.

I like this image as it is used using the wall paint peeling off, and how it is quite funny. I like the fact the girl is screaming and a tiny little mouse that is just looking up at her. I think its quite stereotypical towards girls that are meant to be all scared of rats and mice and that jump on chairs and scream at them, but i think that just adds to the image. I also like how the background is a wall thats is quite literally falling apart and how the contrast of the girls dress and the pale wall works, it makes her stand out alot more.

My T shirt design

My t shirt design is very simple, but thats how i wanted it. I think with the style of layering at the moment a simple t shirt is appealing, if a t shirt is too busy i think it just looks 'tacky' or cheap. I tried to keep it a femine image which is why i chose two swallows flyimg towards each other, this design is also a popular tattoo design amongst girls.

What inspired Your design.

My inspiration to this design was mainly what would i wear?
I thought about different stereotypes and what would most people wear.
so i was sat in my bedroom sipping tea thinking what would i like and what
would my friends like.
Then i thought of current looks and styles in at the moment,
layering is a big look this winter so i thought how a simple design would
suite what i was thinking, thats when i thought of how i wanted something
natural and to do with nature and life. The first thing in my head was birds.
I attempted to draw an eagle that would cover the whole shirt chest...
I failed.
so i then thought of what else i could do when i remembered swallows.
a popular tattoo design and also a very simple but beautifull image.

thats when i drew up my design.

Is the design successful? and why?

I think it is, as it is all the things i wanted.
simple,nature and a nice image.
I also think girls ages 16-19 would like the design.

clothing with a simple image or flowers on them seem popular at the moment also. so i think my design is similar to these and could do well.

Does it address your target audience?

I think it does as the two swollows design seems popular amongst girls aged

16-19 and i think alot of girls this age would pay attention to fashion and think
what would look good with what and i think they would think a simple t shirt with a nice design on it would look good.

example ;
this t shirt from topshop has just one image at the top on the shirt.

Can it be improved?

everything in life can be improved so yes of course it can.
i think i could of made the swallows a littlle less scribbled.

but hey what can i say, im not an artist.

battle front homework.

Chosen Campaign.
- Who wants to be a size zero anyway?
By Rachel Philips.

Socks & The City from Battlefronters on Vimeo.

The video is about encouraging girls to be happy with the size they are instead of trying to make themselves thinner.  It's about how girls should eat and enjoy the way they look rather than worrying about what they want to change there bodies and the way they look.

It's quite comedic as its called socks and the city after the show sex and the city however they are the four friends but as socks.

The most effective thing is when the 'people' or 'socks' are saying what they want to change about themselves and how stupid it sounds especially when the girl say she's giving up oxygen. It's  using puppets instead of people which i think makes it a little less appealing as it kinds drones on. Also when there is writing it seems it goes on a bit too long as its held on the screen for quite a long time. I think it needs to involve more information on the given subject as it does kind of lose sense of what its about.

However i think its a good video as it is quite a strong subject and shows that its okay to be curvy and that being a size zero isn't sexy. it also says how one of the peoples husbands/boyfriend likes her with a bit more meat on her.

t-shirt design.

This t-shirt design has two small images across the chest, placed on top of a eccentric blue dyed fabric. It is the standard t-shirt shape, short sleeves and high collar.
It comes in sizes from

Guys:
Xs , S, M, L, Xl, 2XL, 3XL.

Girls:
S, M, L, Xl, 2XL.

Kids:
Sizes 2, 4, 6, 8.

Infant :
3-6, 6-12, 12-18, 18-24. (months)

The image is of a cookie holding a carton of milks hand saying 'i love you' this is a comical t-shirt. The Reason Behind the image is because people dip there cookies in glasses of milk.
The T-shirt is from Threadless.com and the pricing is $18 plus p+p.
I think for what the t-shirt is i don't think paying that much is nessicary, maybe a price more like £12 is better as the t shirt is just simply two small images ontop of a shirt. I think people would rather buy this than a high street top as its quite quirky and alot of high street tops are more sensible and slightly more plain, this price is also better than those from well known high street top that are more around £20.

The second Design.

This t-shirt design is of a octopus holding a paint brush the title of the shirt is 'art is my weapon' The shirt is just a basic t-shirt in the colour white with the design printed on top of it.
The image is central chest. On a white american apparel tee. I think for what this top is the price is acceptable as its quite a complex top and is a full chest piece unlike the other shirt i chose. I think people would buy this top because like the other one its quite interesting unlike some high street brands.

The sizes:

Guys Sizes:

Xs, S, M, L, Xl, 2xl, 3xl.

Girls sizes:
S, M , L, Xl, 2 XL,

Price of both are $20

The Basic History Of The T-shirt

" - The T-shirt evolved from undergarments used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece "union suit" underwear into separate top and bottom garments, with the top long enough to tuck under the waistband of the bottoms. T-shirts, with and without buttons, were adopted by miners and stevedores during the late 1800's as a convenient covering for hot environments.

- Sherry started in 1948 by its owner and founder Quinton Sandler as a screen print scarf business and evolved into one of the largest screen printed resort and licensed apparel companies in the United States.

- In 1959, plastisol, a more durable and stretchable ink, was invented, allowing much more variety in T-shirt designs.

- In the 1960s, the ringer T-shirt appeared and became a staple fashion for youth and rock-n-rollers. The decade also saw the emergence of tie-dyeing and screen-printing on the basic T-shirt.

- In the 1980s, thermochromatic dyes were used to produce T-shirts that changed colour when subjected to heat. This brand of T-shirt, Global Hypercolour, was a common sight on the streets of the UK for a few years, but has since mostly disappeared. These were very popular in the United States as well in the late 80's among teens."

(all information from wikipedia.)

so the t shirt has evolved from a undergarment to a item of clothing that some people take pride in wearing. In the 1940's they were used as a bra or vest type item of clothing and was worn under neath the clothes, it was also used in the royal navy but now people show there views on t shirts or wear them as a fashion statement.

T shirts have now developed over time from something that started of as a simple shirt for the royal navy, that they most likely found from other boat crews that wore them out in the open on board. the styles have varied quite a lot over the years many people remember the 60's when the tie dye look was quite popular.  The first major company to establish the t-shirt Tropix Togs in the eary 50's.

Now days there are many forms of t-shirts and designs for them, there also many styles of t-shirts but none the less they are still a form of the original under garment.

In a way we are all wearing underwear as our clothes...
